UK troops missing in Afghanistan

Six British soldiers are missing (believed to be killed) in southern Afghanistan after their vehicle exploded. The soldiers were on routine patrol on Tuesday when their vehicle was targeted by an
explosive material. Five of them are from Yorkshire Regiment 3rd Battalion and one from Lancaster’s Regiment. They were on patrol in a Warrior and fully armoured vehicle in the task force Helmand area of operations.

Task Force Helmand spokesperson, Lt Col Gordon Mackenzie disclosed the information to media. Sir David Richards, Chief of Defence staff has also given a statement telling that it was deeply saddened news, the operations and campaigns that UK started in Afghanistan faced a number of tragedies and a lot of British people scarify their lives. Sir Richards said that Majority of the security across Helmond province contain Afghan people. This transition is giving Afghans a confidence to eliminate Taliban factor and live normal lives. And the courage and determination of those people is worth a lot to him.

 Defence secretary Philip Hammond said that this sadistic incident enlightened us the dangers that the British armed men and women working in Afghanistan are facing daily. He added that such threatening incidents would not stop British attempt to make Afghanistan stable. He criticized those who are making hindrance in the way of Afghan progress in Helmand Province. Mr. Philip further told media that the commitment and professionalism of British armed forces will continue the operations till the end of 2014 and will leave Afghanistan a more established and sovereign county and it would no more remain a heaven for terrorism.
