According to new agencies, almost half of the prisoners in Comayagua were on remand or held as alleged gang members.

AP news agency got an internal Honduran government report sent to the UN that contained necessary details about environment and conditions in the Comayagua prison.

The report also disclosed that there were some 800 prisoners in a jail have capacity for only 500, and 51 guards at day time and only 12 by night.

The fire which ignited on Tuesday night destroyed huge areas of the prison and killed some 350 people. It is the worst ever prison fire in the century. People who succeeded to save their lives told that prisoners had tried to save their lives by jumping into water showers or sinks. According a survivor, he woke up by hearing the voices of his fellow inmates who were breaking the wooden ceiling.

However burnt dead bodies are being sent to Tegucigalpa for identification though they are so badly burnt that DNA test or dental records would be needed.
