Uzbekistan banned Valentine's Day

This year lovers in Uzbekistan who used to have fun Valentine's Day by hearing pop singer Rayhan sing will have to go for other types of amusement. A popular Uzbek singer Rayhan used to throw
a musical concert on 4th February for years, but this year the show has been cancelled.

Uzbek officials are trying to promote and appreciate Moghul emperor Zahir-ud-din Muhammad Babur a local hero instead of Valentine’s Day. Emperor Babur had born on February14, 1483.

Babur, a Turko-Mongol Muslim captor from Central Asia who following a succession of hinders at last succeeded in setting the basis for the Mughal Empire in South Asia, will be honored in readings and poetic festivals.

Education ministry's Department for Enlightenment and Promoting Values official told it had issued an internal verdict not to rejoice festivals that are unfamiliar to their civilization and instead endorse Babur's birthday. The anonymous official added that the verdict had been in place for a while.

Uzbek citizens were divided in the groups having different views for this decree. A Tashkent resident Abdullah appreciated the step of Uzbek authorities on the other hand an entertainment journalist Jasur Hamraey opposed the ban and said that imposing patriotic celebrations was a wrong move.
